COSHH guide

COSHH register template

A COSHH register (or inventory) lists every hazardous substance on site, with its hazards, where it's used and when its assessment is due for review. It isn't a legal term, but it's the easiest way to show you've identified everything that needs a COSHH assessment.

What to include

  • Product name and supplier
  • Where and for what task it's used
  • Signal word and hazard statements from the label or SDS section 2
  • Whether a COSHH assessment has been done, its reference and the review date
  • Where the Safety Data Sheet is kept

A register that keeps itself up to date

Every assessment you create with EasyCOSHH is added to your COSHH register automatically. Download it as a CSV that opens in Excel, or group assessments into COSHH files by site or department and download one PDF with a register index at the front.

Keep it current

Review the register when products change and at least when assessments come up for review. EasyCOSHH emails you before review dates and, for products picked from our SDS library, checks monthly for a newer supplier SDS.

Questions

Is a COSHH register a legal requirement?

The law requires suitable and sufficient assessments, not a register as such. A register is good practice and makes it much easier to show what you've assessed.

Is the register free?

Yes. The register and COSHH files are free with an account; you only pay for the assessments themselves after your first 5 free.

Important

EasyCOSHH is a tool, not professional advice. You must check each assessment against the supplier's Safety Data Sheet and your actual work, adapt it and sign it off. For high-risk substances (carcinogens, asbestos, lead, respiratory sensitisers such as isocyanates) use a competent person. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by HSE.
